Perhentian Island |
| |
 |
|
 |
Introduction |
|
| |
On
east-coast of Penisular Malaysia there are several of beautiful
island. One of them is the Perhentian Islands (Pulau Perhentian
in Malay) lie approximately 10 nautical miles (19 km) offshore
the coast of northeastern Malaysia in the state of Terengganu,
approximately 40 miles (64 km) south of the Thai border. The
two main islands are Perhentian Besar ("Big Perhentian")
and Perhentian Kecil ("Small Perhentian"). .
The
Islands of Perhentian Besar and Perhentian Kecil also offer
amazing snorkelling spots in thier boulder encrusted bays. The
aquamarine waters with excellent visibility and spectacular
underwater reefs make Perhentian the preferred choice of veteran
divers. Plunge in and experience the thrill of seeing manta
rays, reef sharks and barracudas. Closer to shore, there's the
option of watching turtles lay eggs at Three Coves Bay, feeding
the vibrant coloured fish or just sitting back and enjoying
the sun and breeze. |

The
Night Never End |
| |
|
|
| |
|
After
snorkelling or diving a day, is time for sit down and relaxing.
There is a Palm Tree Cafe located at long beach, Small Island.
Every night, a lot of travellers gather there for beer, dance,
chatting, laugh and more. That is a good place for relief
pressure.

Geography
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
Both
islands are fringed by white sand beach, and the reefs and crystalline
water are host to a wide variety of coral, sea-turtles, jellyfish,
small sharks and reef-fish. The islands' maximum elevation is
approximately 100 m and they are uniformly covered in coastal
tropical jungle, with few interior foot-trails and no roads.
Other than the owners and staff of the numerous cabin-style
resorts that dot the islands (many of whom depart for the monsoon
season), the islands' only permanent inhabitants live in a small
fishing village on Kecil. With the exception of a single mainland-communications
tower, there are no structures taller than two storeys. |

The
main ferry terminal is at Kuala Besut. From here you have two
options: speedboats, which cover the distance in 30 minutes
for RM40 one way and depart according to demand (4-5 times a
day), and slow boats, which take several hours for the same
trip, leave infrequently and irregularly (usually in the early
morning), and still charge RM30 or so. However, in the off season
slow boats may be your only option.
Taxi
drivers may try to take you to a travel agent of their choosing,
who will pay them commission (which gets charged to you). If
you already have accommodations booked, just go directly to
the jetty, or pick an agent of your own choice and try to get
an insured boat.
